What Hula is?
The Hula dance is associated with Hawaii but few people know what the hula actually is. According to Hawaiian history there is no information available as to who performed the first hula dance but it is a common agreement that the original hula dance was performed by a god or goddess.
Connection to the environment
Hula is well-known as a local dance which is connected to nature. Hula’s costume, movement, lyrics and belief are always related to environment.
In the past Hawaiin believed i god her name is "LAKA" she is the representative of nature. Hawaiin always pay respect to the nature, the tree and natural resources. They always ask permission if want to get something from the forest, and say thank you for what they got. They take just only they need and don't waste it.
Costume
All of Hula attire and accessories are made from natural materials which can be reusable for example “Lei” is the lace made from Ti leaves.After using, “Lei” is able to return to the forest because it can be grow up again.
Movements
Each movement of dancing is referred to the nature because they adapted from natural movement for example flower, rain, sand, wave and wind
Beliefs
Hula is believed that there is god of forest “Laka”. The dancers are highly pay respect to their god as a protector. Due to the tree is the physical representative of god so they always pay respect to nature
